Who says we still have to do everything that’s traditional? Why not make a new tradition like sending out a New Year’s Eve card or even Valentines Day Cards? I really like the Valentines Day cards idea! There are great family photography opportunities there.
Today, on Memorial Day, I am reminded of a photography project that I created a couple of years ago called “Images From The Homefront”. In that photo project I created portraits of military families attempting to express the emotions of each family who loves and supports a member of our military.
I tried to be a photographer less on this trip. Although I did take several hundred images, which is low for me, I tried to force myself to put the camera down so that I could enjoy my family. Sometimes we mothers need to be reminded that life is happening all around us and to breathe it in. I wish that I had a professional photographer to follow me around so that I could not try to grab those moments myself, but BE IN those moments.
The children who’ve stood in front of my camera have conditions including autism, Asperbeger’s syndrome, high risk infant development delay, craniofacial deformity and attention deficit disorder. I was simply blown away by the strength, determination, courage and love that these families share. Listening to their stories moved me in a way that is hard to describe, especially as a mother of three healthy children.
“Being a photographer means I get to be a part of so many families and I love knowing that I can create something that reminds you of your love for them. Each moment is priceless and we all need to stop once in a while to capture those moments for posterity to remind us what adds true meaning to our lives.”
Have you been watching Brooke Burke on ABC’s “Dancing with the Stars” Season 7? Aren’t you just in absolute awe of her? I know I certainly am! Although I must say, I’m not at all surprised that she’s winning over the hearts of the judges and fans, because she absolutely deserves it. Not only is she drop-dead gorgeous and talented, I can honestly tell you she’s one of the nicest people I’ve ever had the opportunity to photograph. And I’ve photographed many, many beautiful women, including celebrities, and Brooke is genuinely one the kindest and most sincere people I’ve met.
