Family photos aren’t just a customary tradition during the holiday season when everyone comes together, but it is a celebration…
There was no shortage of cuteness during this portrait session!
I always enjoy taking family portraits as the natural energy and affection surrounding the family makes for great images.
I wish I had a penny for every time that a client has come to me and exclaimed disappointment that the portrait photographers that they chose for their maternity and baby photography were their incredible wedding photographers. “He did such a great job at our wedding and I don’t understand why he wasn’t a great maternity and baby photographer.” Really? You don’t know why? Oh, okay. I forget that you’ve not hung around the photography industry for decades like I have. The assumption from every layman is that a photographer is a photographer and that means that they should wear every hat. That’s like expecting your podiatrist to perform open heart surgery. We choose our specialties based on what we are passionate about and what we are good at. Don’t expect good portrait photographers to be good event photographers, and vice versa.
Recently, I had an awesome session with a family of four that was a lot of fun to work with. Russ Jones is a busy stay at home father of two boys, an author of a very comical and true parenting blog and he just published a potty training book that I wish I had when my children were young and learning.
Who says we still have to do everything that’s traditional? Why not make a new tradition like sending out a New Year’s Eve card or even Valentines Day Cards? I really like the Valentines Day cards idea! There are great family photography opportunities there.
Melissa Erickson, a writer with GateHouse Media News Group, contacted my portrait studio wanting child and family photography advice from…
On a daily basis, I encourage parents and loved ones to slow down and take the time to document these beautiful and fleeting moments in life with portrait photography. Being a proud mother, I see, first hand, how quickly children grow and how easy it is to let the craziness of life distract you from enjoying these times. Working for Linnea and watching how she sees life and love, I have truly come to see why family portraits are such an irreplaceable treasure…yet it took her months of reminding me to actually step in front of her lens myself!
My art consultants and I all know how life affirming it is to have incredible, artistic portraits of your family around with impact. I have many larger than life size portraits of my family and my babies around my home and everyone who enters is awestruck. “Wow,” they say, “I really like that.” It gets them thinking. It creates a positive energy.
I want to create family portrait photography with heart, family portraits that show how much you love each other. So, with your best interests at heart, I welcome you to experience a different kind of family photography at one of my three portrait studios.
As my photographic technique has become second nature and my artistic vision has become stronger I can let go of all of that and focus on the people in front of me as unique individuals. I look for the emotion, I look for the place where they are in their lives and I try to take a very simple, genuine moment and turn it into art.
My mother produced a daughter who has always made a big effort. I never realized until now that she did this because I have been too busy working hard. Not only do I work hard daily at being a good parent, but I work daily at being a good photographer. Does it work? I hope it does. All I know is that I have always been driven and happy.
